Our Team
- Michelle Laflamme
President and Chief Executive Officer
Michelle Laflamme, LL.M., is a member of the Roll of the Order of Advocates who possesses a Master of Laws. She has fourteen years of experience in business and commercial development in the life sciences, particularly in biopharmaceuticals and medical devices.
In 2007, she received a licence for the KneeKG™, a new knee assessment device, which was developed by the Laboratoire de recherche en imagerie et orthopédie (LIO) at the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS). Shortly thereafter, she founded the Emovi Knee Clinic, the very first clinic in Quebec that uses this highly accurate, high-performance tool. Emovi was honoured twice in 2008 with an Award of Recognition in the Research Innovation Competition of the Association de l'industrie des technologies de la santé and First Prize in the Technological and Technical Innovations category from the Québec Entrepreneurship Contest. More recently in 2009, Michelle Laflamme was a finalist in Ernst & Young's prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year® competition.
- Eric Szmutny
Chief Operating Officer
Eric holds a B.Sc. in Physics and a BBA, MPM Master Degree in Project Management. Prior to joining Emovi, Eric was Vice president strategic technology & development at Orthosoft. Eric brings more than 20 years in development and management of innovative products, regulatory affairs, quality controls and operations.
- Alexandre Fuentes
Vice President Clinical Affairs
Alexandre Fuentes holds a B.Sc. degree in Exercise Science with a specialty in athletic therapy (2002) from Concordia University and an M.Sc degree in biomedical science from the University of Montreal (2006). Mr Fuentes joined Emovi in 2008 as Vice President Clinical Affairs. In addition to his strategic role at Emovi, Mr Fuentes is also currently completing a Ph.D. in biomedical science at the faculty of medicine of the University of Montreal on the biomechanical effect of knee ligament injuries and surgeries.
Scientific Advisory Committee
- Dr. David Baillargeon practices orthopedic surgery at Cité de la Santé in Laval. He received his Doctor of Medicine from McGill University and performed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Université de Montréal. In 2003, he was accepted by the prestigious University of California, San Francisco, for a fellowship in sports medicine. In addition to his clinical activities in orthopedic surgery, Dr. Baillargeon is also a consulting physician for sports organizations such as Tennis Canada, the Association des Golfeurs Professionnels du Québec, and the Montreal Juniors Hockey Club. He has presented a number of national and international lectures on sports injuries.
- Pr. Jacques A. de Guise is a full professor at the ETS and a researcher at the CRCHUM. He holds the Canada Research Chair in 3D Imaging and Biomedical Engineering and the Marie-Lou and Yves Cotrel Chair for Orthopedics Research at the Faculty of Medicine of Université de Montréal. He is the founder and director of the Laboratoire de Recherche en Imagerie et Orthopédie (LIO) of the ETS and the CHUM. He also directs the imaging group working on the development of the EOS® low-dose X-ray system (Biospace med). He also leads the team that licensed a knee-function assessment technology (KneeKG™) to Emovi. He is involved in the development of new 3D imaging methods and the development of predictive indices for joint function.
- Dr. Guy Grimard is an orthopedic surgeon at the CHUSJ. An expert in trauma, lower limb deformities, scoliosis, and sports medicine, he also serves as a medical consultant for the Cirque du Soleil. Dr. Grimard is an associate at Emovi.
- Pr. Nicola Hagemeister is a professor at the ETS and a founding member of the Laboratoire de Recherche en Imagerie et Orthopédie of the CHUM and the HSCM. She specializes in the analysis of human movement and is interested in the development of functional and morphological assessment methods for the musculoskeletal system. In partnership with Emovi, she is involved particularly in developing methods to assess the rotational instability of the knee and to measure predictive indices for joint function.
- Dr. Patrick Lavigne is an orthopedic surgeon at the HMR and an FRSQ Junior 1 Research Scholar at the Centre de Recherche de l'HSCM. Dr. Lavigne is highly involved in projects that aim mainly to improve the treatment of cartilage and ligament pathologies through a better understanding of biology and biomechanics. He is an associate at Emovi and his interests lie in assessing the clinical application of new diagnostic tools for knee pathologies.
- Dr. Pierre Ranger is Chief of Orthopedics at the Hôpital Jean-Talon and also practices orthopedic surgery at Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur de Montréal. Dr. Ranger received his Doctor of Medicine as well as a degree in sports medicine from Université de Montréal. Dr. Ranger is a renowned medical expert in Canada and a member of the prestigious PCL Study Group.
